A long awaited performance video and DVD, Veils of Light: the Sacred Art of Bellydance was recently released from the island of Maui by Mirayah Delamar . The release party and show featured Mirayah’s individual and group choreography and improvisational performances to mystical poetry and the live Turkish, Persian, and Egyptian music of Tamzara. Mirayah Delamar, well-known to bellydance circles in the Pacific Northwest and Northern California, elevates the dance to an ecstatic, spiritual expression, an offering to the Divine Feminine. Her choreography draws from Sacred Geometry like the double spiral, the Merkaba, and the Flower of Life. One of Mirayah’s signature dance and poetry pieces, Offerings to the Seven Directions, transforms the dancers of the Earth Angels belly dance troupe into empowered priestesses of time immemorial. Adorned in the colors of the rainbow, they make shamanic offerings to the 4 directions of the Medicine Wheel, plus Above, Below, and Within. Another enchanting moment in this video is Mirayah’s Mermaid Naga Kanya Dance, featuring live harp by Ani Williams and footage shot 0n the volcanic rocks at Maui’s Birthing Pools during one of Delilah’s bellydance retreats. Her mermaid costume, complete with scallop shell top, strands of pearls, and sparkling tail, is a classic. Mirayah reveals a myriad of veil possibilities with power, beauty, and grace. The viewer is taken on an ecstatic journey of movement and color expressing the true spirit of the dance. Mirayah’s original interpretation of the ancient Dance of the Seven Veils , honors the harmonic cycles of Seven permeating our existence:

2. The Seven colors of the rainbow
3. The Seven chakras, sacred energy centers in the body
4. The Seven year cycle of the body’s cellular transformation
5. The Seven Sisters of the Pleiades star system
6. The Directions – North, South, East, West, Above, Below, and Within.
7. God created the world in 6 days and then She rested on the Seventh .

Inspiring live music by Bedouin Spice from the Gypsy Caravan Stage at the Oregon Country Fair, Sirocco and Ani Williams at Delilah’s Visionary Dance Retreat. The Maui No Ka Oi Allstar Band at the 2001 Peace Odyssey Angelic Ball and Maui's own Tamzara. Complimented with exquisite recordings by Raja, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, David Weisenberg from Kairo by Night, and Steven Flynn. Another highlight of this video is the Earth Day Celebration, capturing the Aloha spirit of the Maui Family, with great shots of children catching Mirayah’s veils as they fall. This video is a blessing for all serious students and seasoned performers of the dance.
