Biography
Mirayah Delamar is a dynamic performer and teacher of the ancient and innovative art of Bellydance. Born in Honduras, of Mayan and Hispanic descent, Mirayah was fascinated by dance from an early age. She moved to Canada at the age of 17 where she discovered yoga and meditation. At 19 years old she entered Georgia State University, where she began her study of ballet and modern dance. Drawn by a desire to go deeper into self-discovery, she pursued training at Naropa University, a Tibetan buddhist college in Boulder, Colorado. There she practiced martial arts (tai chi, a'kido) and improvisational dance rooted in awareness of sacred space and mindfulness of the present moment. She also studied psychology and other insightful disciplines, earning a BA in Buddhist and Western psychology.

Since 1982, Mirayah has been mesmerized by the subtle nuances and mysterious qualities of Raks El Sharki, the dance that came from the East. She appreciates and honors the artistry and contributions of many great reknown teachers of Bellydance, with whom she has had the priviledge to study. Among them, Delilah, Ibrahim Farrah, Suhaila Salimpour, Beata and Horacio Cifuentes, Morocco, Leilah Haddad,, Ahisha Ali, Hadia, Dalia Carella, Jehan Kamal, Puela Lunaris (flamenco), Mimi Janislawaski (Baratanatyam and ancient Egyptian) Sarala Dandekar (Odissi). Mirayah has been a dedicated student of Delilah since 1988, and was an original member of the Visionary Dancers in Seattle. Mirayah is a frequent participant in Delilah's Visionary Dance Retreats in Hawaii, where she also had the opportunity to study with Laurael Victoria Grey, Z Zeline, Sahra, Eva Cernik, Mesmera, Lorraine Lafatta, John Compton and Rebaba, as well as receiving musical coaching from Armando and Sullyman from Sirocco and Erik Brown. Mirayah brings a devotional and mystical approach to bellydance, emphasizing its spiritual roots in trance, healing, and personal self-expression. She is a creative and multi-faceted artist and dancer who celebrates traditional rhythms, music, and dance from the Middle East, as well as transcultural influences of the Sacred Feminine.

She has directed dance troupes in Seattle and Maui, choreographing pieces that incorporate sacred geometry, poetry, Earth mysticism, ceremonial clay creations and reverence for the Divine Goddess. Drawing from a wide vocabulary of movement, she inspires students to explore the language of body and soul to liberate the dancing priestess within. Mirayah Delamar's video release, "Veils of Light, the Sacred Art of Bellydance", features a great variety of exquisite live and recorded bellydance music, with skillful interpretations of many different styles, through Mirayah's solo improvisation, and group choreography, beautifully performed by The Earth Angels bellydance troupe, under Mirayah's direction. The Dance of the Seven Veils is a recurring theme throughout this video. The viewer is taken on an ecstatic journey of movement and color expressing the true spirit of the dance. Mirayah's original interpretation of this ancient, symbolic dance, honors the harmonic cycles of seven permeating our existence. As in the seven musical notes, the seven colors of the raimbow, the seven chakras, the seven year body's cellular trasformation, the seven sisters of the Pleiades star system, the seven days of creation, and the seven directions: north, south, east, west, above, below and within. Mirayah reveals a myriad of veil possibilities with power, beauty, and grace, embrasing the mystical essence within the dance.  Mirayah teaches Sacred Earth Bellydance classes weekly, on thursday evenings at the Studio Maui in Haiku.
